Short-term (1 year) enrollment-type system

Students can earn a degree in one year while continuing to work.

The Division of Economics(Economic Theory and Policy Course/Management Information Course and Regional Development Studies have a short-term (1 year) enrollment-type system that allows students to earn a degree in a short period of time while continuing to work.
We accept working adults who aim to conduct practical research, policy research based on statistical and quantitative methods, etc., mainly in the administrative field and the corporate (or NPO organization) management field.
Please note that this does not assume that students will advance to the doctoral program.

For students planning to enroll in the short-term (1 year) enrollment-type system, it is important to plan carefully in advance so that they can smoothly start their studies and research from April and complete their studies in one year.
In the individual study consultation with your prospective supervisor, please discuss your research theme, desired degree, support system (selection of sub-supervisor), minor, study abroad or internship and course registration plan, etc.

Long-term course system[excluding students enrolled in the short-term (1 year) enrollment system]

Students can take courses while continuing work or raising children.

The Graduate School of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies has established a long-term course system for those who are engaged in work, housework, childcare, or nursing care.
By using this system, it is possible to set a long-term study period within the period of enrollment stipulated by the university regulations (4 years in the master’s course, and 6 years in the doctoral course).
As a result, this system provides diverse and flexible learning opportunities to meet the various learning requirements of working people.
The tuition fee for the standard course period (2 years for the master’s program, 3 years for the doctoral program) will be divided and paid for the course period.

Introduction of “Doctoral Dissertation Research Fundamentals Examination (QE)”

Starting in the 2022 academic year, the Graduate School of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies has introduced the Doctoral Dissertation Research Fundamentals Examination (hereafter, QE).
Those wishing to advance to a doctoral course can complete the master’s course by passing the QE instead of passing a review of their master’s thesis or research paper and passing the final exam (one of the completion requirements), and will be qualified to proceed to the doctoral course.
This is a preferential system that allows students to devote the time they would normally spend writing their master’s thesis to research and writing research papers for submission, to begin their research in the doctoral program at an early stage, and to receive priority consideration for scholarships if they so desire.
