Laboratory Introduction
My research focuses on the politics of the European Union, particularly on the movement of people and its policies, which have resulted in the free movement of EU citizens within the EU while forming the Common Migration and Refugee Policy externally, The EU is itself a political system of great interest, but its unique way of moving people raises important questions, both theoretically and practically. For example, how does the existence of EU citizenship affect the national identity of member states, how does practical movement of persons occur, and what are its implications for the member states’ welfare states? What are the difficulties in forming a common migration and refugee policy, or how do crises such as the refugee crisis and Brexit and growing populism affect EU migration and refugee policy and EU legitimacy? These are just a few examples, but I think they are all issues worth facing. If you are interested, we invite you to join us in our research.
